ARCHIVE HISTORY

Metal Injection premiered the video April 7, 2007, describing its mix of live performance footage, psychedelic imagery and claymation-style animation. It was filmed earlier that spring in New York.

Brodsky recalls “Hollow Severer” as one of the first substantial band videos he photographed entirely himself. Coming shortly after the Reah Valente shoot, it represents the point where acting as his own cinematographer was becoming a practical part of his regular music-video workflow.

David Brodsky recollection

“Hollow Severer” was announced as Kylesa’s debut on MTV2’s Headbanger’s Ball, scheduled for July 28, 2007. A later Pitchfork review of Static Tensions noted the video’s MTV exposure while discussing the breakthrough represented by Time Will Fuse Its Worth.

FROM DAVID

“Reah technically came first by a little, but I think of this Kylesa video as one of the first real band videos I shot entirely myself. This is around where directing and DP’ing the videos myself started becoming the normal way I worked.”
David Brodsky recollection

FROM THE PRESS

Looking somewhat like a vintage Sesame Street interstitial, the animation seems pleasant at first.
