Danny Marino based “Gates of Horn and Ivory” on the Odyssey’s distinction between truthful dreams passing through gates of horn and deceptive dreams passing through gates of ivory. For the video, he and David Brodsky applied that idea to the music industry’s tendency to manufacture glamorous images that can obscure the artist underneath.

The band deliberately treated the shoot more playfully than its earlier, more serious videos, using the staged image-making process to poke fun at both the industry and themselves.
